A Rutter is a handook or guide with detailed information to aid in navigation for areas travelled by a particular captain.
These custom charts and journals are formed from successful voyages and are highly prized and coveted for the safety and speed they can provide to a ship.

It is possible to have a rutter for small area, or single route, but commonly they cover all the areas travelled by that captain and can be quite extensive including desciptions of coastal landmarks and port information.
